Falling in love is one of life’s greatest gifts. It generally happens when you least expect it, and can send you on a whirlwind ride of emotions and sensations. There are many mental and emotional effects of falling in love, but have you ever stopped to wonder what effect it has on your chemical makeup? Love influences our physical bodies as well as our hearts and minds.

Eyes are the windows to the soul, and when looking longingly at our loved one, the eyes also convey our interest. When gazing at the object of your affection, your pupils are likely to dilate. Dilated pupils are a result of positive feelings. Catching a glimpse of that special someone is like shining a ray of positivity into your eyes.

Have you ever wondered why kissing your beau is so euphoric and often such a turn on? Kissing exchanges saliva from one partner to another. Their chemical makeup is then transferred. For instance, if you are a woman involved with a man, kissing him will transfer some of his testosterone into your body, elevating your sexual response.

Falling in love is a chemical process in and of itself. When experiencing infatuation, the body releases oxytocin, phenethylamine and dopamine as well as adrenaline. These elevated hormones can cause a racing heart, excess sweat and even trigger the body’s fight or flight response.

The chemical reaction of love causes a racing heart. A racing heart, in turn, diverts blood away from non-vital organs, causing a “butterfly effect” in the stomach. This is why we get the dizzy feeling associated with being head over heels in love.

Love is a miracle and can send your energy soaring, sky-rocketing to higher planes of existence. If you’re lucky enough to be in love, enjoy every moment of it.
